The Naukri Job Speak index grew by 4% in Jan-12 when compared to Dec-11, thus kick-starting the year on an optimistic note

  • Positive hiring activity was witnessed across all key industry sectors  in Jan-12 over Dec-11
  • On a year on year comparison the national index moved up by 16% in Jan-12 as compared to Jan-11

There is a reason to cheer for job seekers, because despite the uncertainty prevailing in the overall economic scenario, the Indian job market exhibited positive signs at the beginning of 2012.

The Naukri Job Speak index for Jan- 12 at 1121 is 4% higher than Dec-11 index and 16% more than the Jan-11 index. On a year on year comparison, barring ITES and Construction sectors, all the other key industry sectors have seen double digit percentage hikes in their hiring activity.

Hitesh Oberoi, CEO and MD, Info Edge India said “With the beginning of the new year, the recruitment scenario seems to be moving in a positive direction. However, this year, firms will be more particular about recruiting the right talent and employees who can make meaningful contributions to the firm.”

Industry Sector Analysis:

An in-depth analysis of the indices shows that most of the top industry sectors have registered positive monthly growth in Jan-12 when compared to Dec-11. ITES, Oil & Gas and Telecom sectors witnessed strong hiring trends with the index moving up by 19%, 18% and 16% respectively in Jan-12 over Dec-11. Hiring activity in the Construction and Pharma sectors has been stable when compared to last month, while IT and Banking sectors have seen 3% upward movement in hiring activity in Jan-12 over Dec-11.

Functional Area Analysis:

The hottest skill sets for the month of Jan-11 were professionals in ITES and production where the index moved up by 15% and 10% respectively when compared to the last month. Demand for professionals in Software services and Sales moved up by 5% respectively in Jan-12 over Dec-11, while hiring activity for professionals in HR and Accounts maintained steady levels.

City Wise Analysis:

Delhi maintained strong hiring trends with the index moving up by 10% in Jan-12 as compared to the previous month. Bengaluru and Chennai have also been upbeat about hiring with the index moving up by 9% and 8% respectively in Jan-12 over Dec-11. Kolkata and Mumbai maintained steady hiring levels while both Hyderabad and Pune saw the index moving up by a minor 6% respectively in Jan-12 over      Dec-11.
