Reliance Communications, India’s foremost and truly integrated telecommunications service provider, today unveiled its path breaking initiative to break the price barrier for internet access for billions of Indians across 24,000 towns and 600,000 villages. In the largest roll out of affordable wireless internet service across the length and breadth of the country, Reliance slashed the cost of Reliance Netconnect USB stick modem to Rs 1099/- and offers unlimited data usage at affordable tariff of just Rs 169/- only for prepaid users. This plan has been launched across the country except the top 1000 towns.
RCOM led India’s first telecom revolution by making a phone call more affordable. It is now leading the second wave by making India a WireFree country, where every Indian has access to internet at the click of mouse or the press of a key. Reliance Communications (BSE: RCOM), India’s largest integrated telecom operator introduces India’s first, user generated caller tune service. This exclusive service allows customers to record any content via ‘Tune Maker’ platform and set it as their own caller tune. Subscribers can also post their creations through which other customers can set it as their caller tunes. “Following the expiry of the non-binding Term Sheet with GTL Infrastructure Ltd., Reliance Communications Ltd. is now engaged in discussions with certain other strategic and financial investors, to pursue a similar transaction aimed at significant reduction in the Company’s debt and unlocking of value for RCOM shareholders from the passive infrastructure and related assets in its 95% owned subsidiary, Reliance Infratel Ltd.
An appropriate further announcement will be made in due course.
Owing to the provisions of mutual confidentiality agreements, RCOM cannot provide any comment on the reasons for the inability to conclude a transaction with GTL Infrastructure Ltd.” (more…)

Reliance Communications, India’s largest and only telecom operator offering both CDMA and GSM service across India, has announced the launch of first-of-its kind Customer Care Initiative ‘Live Chat’. This Live Chat service will enable Reliance’s customers with real-time query and issue handling through chat-based online platform.
In the first phase of the launch ‘Live Chat’ will be available to Reliance’s over 1.3 million data customers across the country. Following the implementation of the service across the data business, RCOM plans to extend the service to other business groups. (more…)

Reliance Communications today made the payment of Rs 8585.04 crores towards 3G spectrum fees to Department of Telecommunications. RCOM was amongst the only three private telecom operators who won 3G spectrum in 13 circles including the most lucrative Circles Mumbai and Delhi. Reliance Communications, India’s first and only operator to offer nationwide CDMA and GSM services, submitted its application for the forthcoming 3G Spectrum auction today.
Reliance Communications offers next-generation mobility services on both CDMA and GSM technology platforms. The pan-India 3G ready GSM network, primarily in 1800 MHz spectrum band, was rolled out in January 2009 across 24,000 towns and 6 lakh Indian villages. The wireless network of Reliance Communications covers over One Billion Indians.
Earlier this week, Reliance Communications achieved the unique landmark of serving 100 Mn wireless customers in a single country, becoming the 4th operator in the world to achieve this milestone. The landmark achievement has been attained within seven years of Reliance Communications first launching its pan-India mobile services in 2003. Incidentally, it is also the fastest ramp up of mobile subscribers in the country from 10 million in mid-2005 to 100 million in just three and half years.
